Hello all! The spoiler is completely out for United Dominaria And I’ve really dived into it, so I’m here to let you know what’s going on in Limited Land. Today we will review basic mechanics and original models including deck models. For specific Sealed Deck tips, see TaJoordan’s guide:
We have our usual set of ten archetypes to go with. One of the best ways to get started is to look at the unfamiliar reference to get an idea of what Wizards intend to do because it is likely to be well supported. Another key step is to look for any subforms that may not be obvious.
I made a model structure for each two-tone combination to give you an idea of what they’re looking to do. Skeletons are usually built using one rare and three subdivisions so you can get an idea of what a normal, not submerged, cloud deck would look like. In this group they’ve scaled it up to two uncommon streamers so I’m going to give myself a fourth uncommon space so I can fit in.
If you are already familiar with all the mechanisms, feel free to skip to the Prototypes section. I promise I won’t be offended after I worked so hard on it…
When a creature is recruiting attacks, you have the option to click on another creature that doesn’t attack and doesn’t have a summoning disease. If you do, you add that creature’s power to the attacking creature’s power.
Very powerful ability similar to the original intended effect of the scopes. Basically, you can do a dummy attack with this extra creature without endangering it in combat. It also has the advantage of being able to “attack” with a creature that is either defended or calmed.
If they killed the creature in response to their recruitment, it would use the last known power to decide what it would add. So if they used the Doom Blade effect to kill 2/2 in response, it would still add 2 powers. If they used the Tribute to Urborg instead, it would add zero strength.
It’s also a great combo with any of the creatures that trigger when you tap on them.
This is a very tasty mechanic that allows you to choose where to start in the saga. It’s basically like you skipped the part of the book you want to read so you don’t get any knowledge of what you skipped.
The reward changes from card to card, but the scope of the effect depends on the number of basic land types you control. This isn’t related to the types of mana it can produce, so pain areas like Adarkar Wastes count as zero, but Idyllic Beachfront will count as two.
Kicker is back again, and usually this is an extra cost you might pay when playing a spell to add an extra effect.
These are the new kid on the block when it comes to evergreen counters. If you wish to remove the permanent stun meter, you can alternatively remove the stun meter. This includes untap effects and not just untap step. For example, if you try to use Shore Up to unclick an object with counters, it will just remove a counter instead.
The Azorius deck does Azorius things. In other words, he wants to hit you in the air while doing enough to stop you on the ground to cross the finish line. When building this, it was hard to find two quality joint drops to fill the curve, so I went with Samite Herbalist due to its synergy with Raff, Weatherlight Stalwart. The reason I chose the Aether Channeler as rare is because it provides the versatility this archetype really needs.

Orzhov does his usual aristocratic things of sacrificing creatures for profit, but he also does a great job of expanding. Aron and Benalia’s Ruin and Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim really pays you for your heavy penchant for this strategy. It’s just such a powerful synergistic surface, that I didn’t even choose Rarely because it didn’t need one.

You will be shocked. Shocked I tell you. Are you ready for this, Boros wants to attack the little creatures and burn things out of the way. I know her life is changing. It’s very easy to play a bunch of creatures, kill their creatures, and go ahead and make noise.
I went with the Archangel of Rage for the rare because it was set. I thought about adding another land to pay for the second kicker, but I didn’t want to have another exploited land in this deck.
Silesia goes down to advance wide by tokens before eliminating the opponent with a mass casting spell. You can really go off with an early Queen of Ruadach’s Alienal at Captain’s Call. The rare decision was easy as the King Darien XLVIII was built specifically for this deck.
Dimir Control slowly builds feature through takedown and card feature. She makes use of cards like Essence Scatter and Extinguish the Light to control bigger threats while Choking Miasma really shines as a way to take down the schwag creatures swirling around her. I went with Ertai Resurrected as a rarity because it gives you options while playing the game at an instant speed.
Ie surface spells? It has always been. This is the most fun combination to play as it almost feels like a combo deck. You just blast spells and start dropping Tolarian Terrors for one mana. While it sounds like a far-fetched dream, I actually crafted this exact deck four times on day one. I chose Haughty Djinn because if you’re going to take off, you might as well make it cheaper.
Simic will play the field game with uncolored lands to make sure that they can push projectiles of colors and bombs of other colors. In this version you should be able to reach the full range very easily to make Rootwalla sunbathing a huge threat or to bring down Yavimaya Sojourner early. I went with Herd Migration as a rarity because even though it’s a single color, it’s the best field-returner of the bunch.
Rakdos goes to the throat without a care in the world for what he’s doing to himself to get there. It even has some act of sacrificing theft going on in the background. While a card like Toxic Abomination is horrible on most decks, you don’t care much about your life when you’re trying to finish the game as quickly as possible.
Lagomos, Hand of Hatred truly makes this archetype by providing sacrifice fodder for the Bone Splinters. I chose the Braids, Arisen Nightmare for this group because they were the most objective with sacrificing everything for victory.
Gulgari is doing slow things at the tombs. I actually added some blue lands to make it Sultai because I felt it added a lot to the archetype by enabling Vineshaper Prodigy and providing an additional land type for Bortuk Bonerattle. I went with the rare color Nemata, Primeval Warden because it continues to build value throughout a long game.
Gruul got raucous with some extra field gain, so I added some white duos to make Rootwalla and Radha’s sunbathing, Coalition Warlord even better while empowering the player on the strength of the coalition. I went with Defiler of Vigor as a rarity because it’s disgusting, I recommend 10/10.
This brings us to the end of the base ten models, although there are plenty of variations in float with three color decks or kicker cost scattering fairly common. There is also a very popular Defender model which is crazy if no one fights you for it.
