Lamborghini is fortunate to have ardent fans of its brand, which goes beyond just supercars. The name was attached to wine, watches, furniture, shoes, and more. So why isn’t there something bigger like a motor yacht? Well, that’s part of the portfolio too. Lamborghini has joined forces with the Italian Sea Group, a well-known yacht builder, to produce the Lamborghini 63.
The first 63 aircraft were delivered last July. Brett David, CEO of Prestige Imports and flagship dealer of Lamborghini in Miami, has sold two limited-edition yachts to South American customers. Price: 3.5 million euros ($3.49 million).
Lamborghini historians will recognize the significance of the name “63”. That was the year Ferruccio Lamborghini tractor manufacturer established his car company in Sant’Agata Bolognese and produced the introductory 350 GT, powered by a V12 engine. The Ferrari Lamborghini owner has allegedly been snubbed by the famous Enzo Ferrari after being called to report some difficulties with his car.
So the 24-ton yacht, which was developed as part of Italy’s Sea group’s Technomar brand, will be built in a 63 version, David says, and will be powered by two twin 2,000-hp V12 engines. The Yacht 63 is a 63-foot luxury yacht that is capable of, yes, 63 knots. The elegant design inspiration was the 220-mph Lamborghini Sián FKP 37, a hybrid sports car.
There is an interesting history here. Lamborghini himself commissioned the Riva Aquarama wooden speedboat in 1968, initially powered by two of his company’s four-liter Espada Lamborghini V12s. It was the fastest Aquarama built, was capable of 48 knots (55 mph) and was retained by the Founder until 1989 (although at one point replaced by a GM-derived V8-powered Lamborghini V12s). “There was a ‘wonderful’ factor to this boat,” David says.
David says that perhaps five or six 63s will be allocated to the US market, although he hopes to get 15. Other strong markets for the boats include Italy itself, Japan, Asia Pacific/Australia, and the Mediterranean region. A customer ordered his 63 with a Ducati and Cyan motorcycle in dark green with gold accents. The yachts will be very individual. David says the layouts with inputs from Centro Stile in Lamborghini include a twin bedroom for four and five people, or a version with a living room.
All furniture and cabinetry are designed for the 63’s high performance on the water. Carbon fiber, which is also widely used in Lamborghini cars, helps keep weight low and performance high.
“We are proud to see the essence of Lamborghini’s DNA set out today to sail the sea in the same style as our super sports cars racing through the asphalt,” says Stefano Rutigliano, Director of Strategy at Automobili Lamborghini. “This yacht is proof that the shared values and perfect synergy of the two teams are key to executing excellent projects.”
According to Giovanni Costanino, CEO of Italian Sea GroupAnd the “Selected owners around the world will not only own the fastest Tecnomar motor yacht in the fleet, but the Tecnomar, the masterpiece of the Lamborghini 63.”
